What are email drip campaigns and how can you use them on Steady

Grow your membership revenue with drip campaigns

Drip Campaigns are a powerful tool to help you grow your membership revenue faster, systematically, and - most importantly - automatically. This feature allows you to send automated series of emails to your audience based on a specific trigger.

That way, you can build a long-term relationship with newsletter subscribers and members without the hassle to reach out to individual members.

Setting Up a Drip Campaign

  1. Access the Drip Campaigns page nested under the business section.

In the first version of this feature, you can access one template — a welcome flow for newsletter subscribers.
If you don't currently have or collect subscribers on Steady, we'll show you how to change that. You can also find more information here.

  2. Edit the campaign, that is:

    • Set the trigger of the drip campaign via the drop-down menu. For the MVP, there is only one option: "User subscribed to newsletter."

    • Add or modify the emails you want to send to users who meet that trigger, including:

      • 📧 The subject line of the emails (max 60 characters)

      • ⏰ The timing (when should the emails get sent as a delay relative to the trigger)

      • ✏️ The content or body of the emails.

  3. Activate your campaign so that users start receiving the emails.

Please note that you cannot publish a campaign if there are no published emails.

When you modify a campaign that is already active, all changes you make to the emails will apply to all users meeting the trigger immediately. If you change the timing of the email, this will apply to all new users who enter the flow from that moment on. If you delete an email or even an entire campaign, the email(s) will immediate no longer get sent to users.

Monitoring Your Drip Campaign

For each drip campaign, you can see the following data per email within the drip campaign:

  • How many users received the email?

  • What percentage of users opened the email?

In the future, we will allow you to choose a custom timeframe for evaluating this data and possibly also provide some benchmarks across Steady, so that you can assess how well your drip campaigns are performing. (Of course, we'll also provide you with the best practices to learn from better performing campaigns.)

Once a drip campaign is published, you can see the live drip campaign and can switch a toggle to unpublish the campaign back to draft. The moment you do that, users will stop receiving the emails you set up.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will users be able to unsubscribe from drip campaign emails?

Yes, each drip campaign email will include an unsubscribe link. This unsubscribes users from the drip campaign emails, but not from your regular post emails.

We will introduce a notifications settings page for newsletter subscribers soon.

How can I make changes to my drip campaign?

First, navigate to the drip campaign you want to change. Then make the changes to the emails, by modifying the copy, the subject line or the timing of the email. You can also delete an email and add a new one.

Click the button to save and activate (not save as draft) to make sure your changes go live.
