Publishing and hosting a podcast on Steady

Use our post editor to publish your podcast episodes on Steady

Updated today

This page is focused on helping you publish and host your podcast on Steady. There are other options of setting up a podcast on Steady using an external feed or publishing via Podigee.

When you first set up your podcast on Steady, you can define your title, description and cover art, but we cannot create an RSS feed let alone submit it to Spotify before there is at least one paywalled podcast episode. So, if you have not published a podcast episode yet, you will be prompted to do so.

  1. Click on the link to "create podcast episode".

  2. This will take you to our editor with a template for a podcast epsiode. Please use this template and modify it.

  3. Insert your first podcast episode as an audio file, by clicking the microphone icon in the menu bar. You can then select the audio file you wish to upload.

4. Now you need to put each members-only episode behind a paywall so that only your paying members will be able to listen to it. To do this, insert a paywall using the lock icon (right next to the microphone) in the menu. Insert the Paywall above anything that should be for members' eyes only. Anything below the Paywall will only to be visible to members once they have logged in. If you don't insert the paywall before the audio, it will not work to submit this paywalled RSS to Spotify.

5. Add any other necessary content to your post. Remember that your post are your episode description that show up on the episode page in Spotify or other podcasting apps when members listen via RSS or Spotify. When you're done, click "Continue" to proceed to your post settings.

There you have a number of publishing options, including sending your post as a newsletter, scheduling a post for later and most importantly, publishing the episode on your podcast feed for members. Select that option and enter your podcast title and a short description, which is shown as a teaser in the episode list. The full episode description is your actual post!

6. Publish your post.

Once your first audio post is published, you can activate the RSS feed and submit your podcast to Spotify You only need to do this the first time you publish a podcast. Once it's activated, you're good to go.
