Adblock Detection

Protect your ad revenue. When a visitor uses an adblocker, show them a layer prompting them to disable it — or support you directly as a member.

If your publication relies on advertising revenue, visitors using adblockers represent lost income. The Adblock Detection layer shows an overlay when a visitor has an adblocker active, giving them two options: disable the adblocker, or support you directly by becoming a paying member.

Adblock Detection only works on your own website — Steady pages don't carry ads. It requires the Steady code to be installed on your site. You can configure the layer in your Layers settings.

Hard and soft blocking

You can choose between two blocking modes:

  • Hard blocking — the layer covers the page and the visitor cannot proceed without either disabling their adblocker or becoming a paying member. Use this if ad revenue is essential to your publication.

  • Soft blocking — the layer appears as a dismissible overlay. Visitors can close it and continue reading without taking action. Use this for a lighter approach that raises awareness without blocking access.

Pausing detection for the same visitor

You can configure how often the layer reappears for the same visitor. Once a visitor has seen or dismissed the layer, you can set a pause period before it shows again — so you're not showing the same message on every single visit. You can customise this in your Adblock Detection settings.

Copy tips

Your headline has room for 60 characters — lead with what the visitor stands to lose or gain. The description supports 170 characters: use it to briefly explain why you rely on ads or why membership is a good alternative. Your button text supports up to 24 characters.
