Steady passes on the transaction fees that its payment providers charge for each payment. The exact fee depends on the currency your publication uses and the payment method your member chooses. Your billing frequency only changes how often a fee applies: with annual memberships it’s charged once a year instead of every month.
Transaction costs for publications in EUR and USD
Direct Debit (EUR only): 1% + €0.20 – direct debit is not available for publications in USD
Credit Card: 1.9% + €0.30
American Express (EUR only): 2.9% + €0.30
Apple Pay: 1.9% + €0.30
PayPal: 2.49% + €0.35
For publications in USD, the fixed amounts are charged in US dollars ($0.30 / $0.35).

Costs for chargebacks
Direct Debit: €3.50 per chargeback or failed direct debit (EUR publications only).
Credit Card: €30 per chargeback.

Transaction costs in euros for publications billed in other currencies are converted using the service openexchangerates.org.
Special considerations for annual memberships
One-Time Transaction Costs: Fees for an annual membership are deducted in full during the first payment.
Distribution of Payouts: Contributions for an annual membership are distributed over 12 months to allow for potential refunds if the project ends prematurely.
Lower Overall Costs: Annual memberships incur fewer transaction fees than monthly memberships since the fees are applied only once.
