
What is the Steady Community App?
The Steady Community App is a mobile app that lets you bring your paying members together in one space to connect, chat, comment, and engage more deeply with your work. It’s designed to make community a core value of your membership program and to make it easy for you to interact with your members.

Share your content
Any content that you tell us to add via RSS feed will automatically show up in the app. This includes Steady posts, posts from your website, your social feed or a podcast feed.
If a post is paywalled, members without entitlements will see the paywall in the in-app browser.
Podcast RSS feeds unfortunately do not allow for plan-based entitlements. All podcasts you add in the app will be accessible by all paying members, irrespective of the membership plan.
Additionally you can post content on any section within your publication on the app. Members will only be allowed to post content on a channel that you define.
Interact & engage
Comment on posts and reply to members.
Join discussions in group chats (that you can define) or via direct messages.
How can I get my project to be part of the app?
Let us know that you want to be included in the Community App. You can do that by using the Onboarding form or by reaching out to us directly. There are many options of what you can customise in the app to make it work optimally for you and your community.
Once your project is included in the app, as a media maker, you will have special rights within your publication on the app. For example, you will be able to post content on all tabs within the app for your publication. Further admin rights are currently in the process of being defined and we are always happy for input on what you expect to be able to do.
How can members access your community in the app?
Download the Steady app
Log in with their Steady email (and enter verification code)
Start reading and engaging in your community, if they have an active paying membership
Members with multiple subscriptions will see all their channels in the left-hand side menu.
Members without a paying subscription (e.g. newsletter subscribers) will not be able to access the Community App for the time being.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I control which content appears in the app?
Yes, you can choose which content to integrate into the app automatically.
If you add your Steady posts, any post that you publish on Steady will appear in the app.
Does the podcast player work in the background?
Yes. When users listen to a podcast within the app, they can continue browsing and engaging, or even minimizing the app.
Can features or access differ by membership tier?
Not quite. All features in the app are available to all paying members. When a member clicks on a post from within the app, an in-app browser opens with the post content. If the member does not have the entitlement to view that content, they will see a paywall.
All podcast episodes will be available to all paying members within the app, so it might not make sense to add a premium podcast feed that is only accessible to higher-priced membership plans.
Can members start their own group chats?
No. You as a media maker can define the group chats that you want and any member can join it.
Can I disable comments or DMs on Steady if I switch to the app?
Not at the moment. A unified rollout will eventually make this possible.
Can I moderate comments on the app?
Not at the moment. This functionality can become available in the future though. We appreciate your input on how important this is for you to join the app.
Can I customise the UI of the app for my publication?
A little, yes. You can customise the following:

define name, description and image of group chats
define topics to be shown in the app
add custom content within a specific topic
