I have a charge from Steady on my bank statement, what's that all about?

For members: what a Steady Media charge on your bank statement is, and how to identify the media maker

A charge from Steady on your statement is almost always a membership or subscription to a publication — a magazine, newsletter, podcast, blog or video channel. Steady handles payments for thousands of independent media makers, which is why our name appears on your statement instead of theirs.

Here's how to find out exactly which publication it was, and what to do next.

Find out what you were charged for

  1. Log in to your Steady account and open My Memberships. Every membership and every payment is listed there.

  2. You don’t need a password: on the login page, enter the email address you think the charge is linked to, and we’ll send you a 6-digit login code by email.

  3. Not sure which email that is? Search your inbox — including your spam folder — for "Steady" or "steadyhq.com". We send an email confirmation for every payment we take.

Still can't place it? Email support@steadyhq.com with the date and the amount of the charge, and we'll look it up for you.

Managing invoices and payment methods

Cancel a membership

Open My Memberships, choose the membership and click "Cancel Plan". Your membership then runs until the end of the term you've already paid for and won't renew after that. Step-by-step instructions

Ask for a refund

If you'd rather stop straight away than wait until the end of the term, choose "extraordinary cancellation" when you cancel and tell us why. Our support team reviews every request and can refund your membership in full or in part. You'll get a confirmation either way.

I don't recognise this charge at all

Before you contact your bank, it's worth checking a few things — they explain most cases:

  • Someone else in your household may have used the card.

  • A trial or introductory offer may have converted into a paid membership.

  • An annual membership may have renewed, roughly a year after you first joined.

  • You may have signed up with a different email address than the one you're checking.

If none of those fit, email support@steadyhq.com with the date of the charge, the amount, and any email address you think it might be linked to. We'll trace the payment, cancel the membership behind it and review a refund with you. You don't need a Steady account for us to help.

Why does it say Steady and not the publication's name?

Steady is the "merchant of record" for the media makers we work with. In practice that means you buy the membership from the publication, and Steady takes the payment, issues the invoice and handles sales taxes on their behalf — so our name, not theirs, ends up on your statement.

Media makers work this way because it takes invoicing, payment providers, currency conversion and international tax filing off their plate, and leaves them more time to spend on the thing you're paying for. More about Steady
